Directors Jean-Philippe Blunt and Thom Humphreys from in/out shares their latest music video made for Moses Boyd
“The brief spoke of ‘hyper-musicality’. Outside of the obvious, this got us thinking about how might a sound ‘look’? What are our instruments, as filmmakers?
First though, we had to set the mood and feel of the piece. Moses wanted something ‘sinister and mystic’ and in line with the album’s themes we anonymised the performers in a shroud of light. The use of a reflective spray and a singular spotlight achieved this look; haloing the band in this intense glow. All captured in-camera.
Playing off this visual hook we then set about composing our own rhythm. The looping trajectories, the projected shapes and the strobing light source were all used to achieve that desired ‘musicality’. Plus, by tethering all the action to the track and dolly, we established a perpetual motion; mapping out the music as much as the space.
Under the guidance of DP Spike Morris we pushed the in-camera capabilities of film to visually sculpt the music, etching out the track’s propulsive production wherever possible. The materiality of film meant we could really hack the medium to bend and manipulate the images around the music. Having the necessary ingredients in the edit was important to build an arc that does justice to the track, whilst also being true to the in-camera imagery captured on the day.”

Massive Attack have announced the release of ‘Eutopia’, a new audio-visual EP featuring collaborations with Young Fathers, Saul Williams and US band Algiers.
The project, which was recorded in three different cities during lockdown, sees the three tracks accompanied by mind-bending visuals typical of the trip-hop pioneers.
Co-written and produced by 3D (Massive Attack’s Robert del Naja) and Mark Donne, the project places a spotlight on arguments for global system change from UN Paris Climate Agreement author Christiana Figueres, founder of the Universal Basic Income Principle Professor Guy Standing and inventor of the US “Wealth Tax” policy Professor Gabriel Zucman.

Glassworks Creative Studio director Hugo Rodríguez Rodríguez commands all the colors of the rainbow in this dreamy companion to Khruangbin’s latest track. Pelota is the release single on the Texan trio’s new studio album Mordechai, but she is also a bundle of energy that bounces through the galaxy like a spirited ball.
Produced in eight weeks with a remote setup in Coronavirus times, this psychedelic journey brought together our team of pan-national talent – a mixed cel animation, 3D and 2D production that translates Alvaro Sotomayor’s magical story into visuals that capture Khruangbin’s musical aesthetics.

2 in a Million (Director’s Cut) is J.A. Moreno’s personal take on the official music video he directed for twice Grammy-nominated DJ/Producer Steve Aoki, multi-award winning musician Sting, and platinum-selling trio SHAED.
The video follows two dancers in one long shot, as they relay the feeling of falling in love and being soulmates. Filmed in just thirty minutes at the end of the official shoot, Moreno’s cut focuses on the dancers, seen only as silhouettes in the official version, and highlights their outstanding technical skills and chemistry. Using the original choreography as a basis, Moreno’s direction delivers a spontaneous, raw and emotionally engaging performance.
2 in a Million is the third collaboration with Steve Aoki. Commenting on it, Moreno states: “Working on this project was a dream. I had already worked on several projects with Steve Aoki, so I knew that we got on well. With 2 in a Million he gave me the chance to do what I love for a music legend like Sting”.

“For Katy Perry's (@katyperry) new single 'Daisies', we imagined a world that illustrate the perseverance of a girl who overcomes the obstacles getting in her way. This is represented by a rock that keeps invading her house, transforming it into different surreal spaces. It finally culminates with the character rising above it all and coming out stronger on the other side. The video was created thanks to the talent of more than 40 artists from around the world, all working remotely from home.” - directed and animated by Vallee Duhamel creative studio we all know from @offfest activities

The times of social distancing can also serve as a catalyst for international cooperation, as the latest music video “Davison“ by Detroit Underground™ mastermind Kero shows. For the Detroit (USA) based techno label, Joëlle Snaith, Christoph Grünberger and Florian Renner created a video while working remotely which reflects the depressing lockdown situation that prevailed in April 2020.
Groups of figures, created in the Renaissance period and conceived as a compositional unit since antiquity, are brutally separated - torn apart.
Laocoön faces a more powerful and invisible enemy today, the virus. In the lockdown, in isolation, Apollo’s gaze is ultimately broken, always wandering into the distance.
By virtue of unity, the protagonists grow by the restrictions. Liberation is the ascent, the common overcoming of the threat in a newly created formation.
Parallels in the storyline branch this work even further and let it break out to Ireland, where the agency “The Tenth Man“ co-founded by Richard Seabrooke, publishes a similarly themed video entitled “The Phoenix“.

Known for his retro-futuristic noisy edginess as heard on the ‚Small Disasters‘ and ‚Playing In The Night‘ EPs, TOM And His Computer is now releasing "Future Ruins".
The title track is a postapocalyptic song cumulating in a noisy guitar-explosion, contrasted by Roxy Jules bittersweet vocals, while 'The Darkness Within' on the B-side plays with interesting synthie and guitar layers. Both songs have been co-produced and mixed by Trentemøller.
'Future Ruins' is accompanied by a fascinating video directed by Martin Garde Abildgaard
