Darian Mederos: God is a Woman

God is a Woman solo show features a collection of new works by Cuban artist Darian Mederos running virtually at HOFA (House of Fine Art), London
9 - 18 November

Here he transitions from hyper-realist portraits to more narrative oil paintings centred on 'woman' as the sole subject. Close-up portraits often obscured by a signature bubble wrap layer give way to more elaborate scenes in which the artist captures what he describes as the ultimate beauty epitomised in the female form.

Mederos employs his distinctive layering and hyperrealist painting techniques in ways that provide a foundation for his new, more narrative works, allowing him to capture intimate scenes in the lives of the subject. The outcome is a series of captivating homages to natural beauty of the female form as encountered, perhaps unexpectedly, in moments of heightened vulnerability and sensuality. The artist's iconographic bubble wrap facade also takes on new meaning as a protection or veil, alluding further to the vulnerability of the female subject and the viewer's yet undefined role as a momentary witness to the scene.

Through this body of work Mederos seeks to reject the western beauty standards by honouring diversity and female empowerment. The paintings reveal perfection within the imperfections and beauty within strangeness.
